What is Google Pomelli? Features, Benefits & India Launch Explained

April 14, 2026
By Mayank Rai

You have customers who genuinely love what you do. But the moment someone says, "We need content for Instagram this week," something tightens in your chest.

You open Canva. You stare at a blank template. You write a caption, delete it, write it again. You spend three hours producing something that looks decent but somehow does not feel like your brand. Then you do it all again on Friday.

This is not a creativity problem. This is a resource problem. And Google thinks it has found a way to solve it.

So What Exactly Is Google Pomelli?

Google Pomelli is a free AI marketing tool built by Google Labs in collaboration with Google DeepMind. It was launched in October 2025 for the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and then officially brought to India in February 2026. The core idea sounds almost too simple: you give Pomelli your website URL, and it builds an entire brand profile for you. From that brand profile, it generates social media campaigns, ad creatives, product photography, and even short videos.

It is not a content scheduler. It is not a stock photo library. It is not another generic writing assistant that produces the same flavour of caption for a jewelry brand that it would for a dental clinic. Pomelli is something more deliberate than that. It is designed to understand what makes your business yours and then produce content that actually sounds and looks like it came from you.

The name is unusual, yes. Google has not officially explained where it came from, which is honestly very on-brand for a Google Labs experiment. What matters more than the name is the problem it is trying to solve and whether it actually solves it.

The Business DNA Concept Is the Whole Point

Every tool in the Google AI marketing tool space asks you to set up your brand before you can do anything. You upload a logo. You choose brand colours from a colour picker. You paste in a tone of voice document if you have one, and most small businesses do not. The setup itself becomes a barrier.

Pomelli removes that barrier entirely.

When you enter your website URL, Google Pomelli AI scans everything it can find: your homepage copy, your about page, your product descriptions, the images you have chosen to represent your business, the fonts you are using, the colours your designer picked three years ago and the way your sentences tend to end. From all of this, it builds what Google calls your Business DNA.

Your Business DNA is not a checklist. It is a living brand blueprint.

This is why Pomelli generates content that sounds like you instead of content that sounds like AI wrote it at 2 am for a client it has never met.

Three Steps. That Is the Entire Workflow.

The Google Pomelli features and benefits that get talked about the most are the outputs: the posts, the creatives, and the product shots. But the workflow itself deserves attention because it is genuinely uncommon in how smooth it is.

Step one is brand analysis. You paste your website URL. Pomelli goes away and reads your site the way a new designer would on their first day. It is looking for patterns. What does this brand consistently emphasise? What visual language does it use? What does it sound like when it is talking to its customers? This takes a few minutes and produces your Business DNA profile. You can review it before moving forward. If something feels off, that is usually a sign your website needs a refresh rather than a sign the tool got it wrong.

Step two is campaign ideation. Once your brand profile is set, Pomelli suggests campaign directions based on your business type and goals. You can accept one of these suggestions or type your own. A homewares brand might type "monsoon sale campaign." A coaching business might type "new batch starting June." Pomelli takes that prompt and your Business DNA and starts building.

Step three is asset generation. This is where it produces the actual content: social media posts for Instagram and Facebook, ad creatives, web banners, captions, and copy. These are editable inside the tool before you download anything. You can change text, adjust imagery direction, and flag what you do not like.

For a business that previously spent half a week producing the same volume of content, that is a meaningful shift.

The India Launch: Why This One Actually Feels Different

Most global tech tools arrive in India as an afterthought. The interface is identical to the US version, the examples are culturally irrelevant and the pricing has been converted from dollars with no particular thought given to local context.

The Google Pomelli India launch feels different, and not just because Google India announced it on February 26, 2026, with a dedicated tweet that hit hundreds of thousands of views within hours.

The India rollout of Pomelli was designed with the specific reality of Indian small businesses in mind. India has somewhere around 63 million micro, small, and medium enterprises. They have a phone, an internet connection, a product or service they are genuinely proud of, and an increasingly urgent need to show up professionally online because that is now where purchasing decisions are being made.

The Google Pomelli India rollout is reported to come with 18 months of free access, reportedly in partnership with Reliance Jio, making it genuinely accessible rather than free in the nominal sense that still requires a credit card and a willingness to navigate pricing tiers. The tool is also being tuned for cultural relevance, so the content it generates does not carry the particular awkwardness of marketing copy that has been translated rather than written.

For a café owner in Koramangala, a handloom weaver selling on Instagram from Bhubaneswar, a D2C skincare brand based out of a two-room setup in Pune, this is not a minor convenience. This is the difference between having a marketing presence and not having one.

What Pomelli Can Actually Generate

The list of outputs has grown steadily since the initial Google Pomelli launch in October 2025. By the time of the India rollout, the tool was capable of producing:

Social media posts formatted for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. These include both the visual creative and the caption, both grounded in your Business DNA, so they do not require significant editing before posting.

Ad creatives for Google Ads and Facebook Ads. The formats match platform specifications, which removes one of the more tedious parts of the production process.

Website banners and promotional graphics.

Product photography through the Photoshoot feature. You upload a single product photo, choose a backdrop or lifestyle context and Pomelli produces studio-quality imagery. For small businesses that would otherwise spend tens of thousands of rupees on a professional product shoot, this feature alone justifies the time it takes to set up the tool.

Short-form video animations through the Animate feature, powered by Veo 3.1. Static creatives can be brought to life as Reels-ready or Shorts-ready clips with motion added to elements in a way that matches the existing brand aesthetic.

All of these outputs are editable before download. Nothing is locked.

The Honest Limitations Worth Knowing

A blog that only tells you what a tool does well is not actually useful. The Google Pomelli features and benefits conversation needs the other side of it too.

The tool currently operates in English only. Pomelli learns from your website. If your website is outdated, sparse, or not representative of your current brand direction, the Business DNA it builds will reflect that rather than the brand you are trying to become. This is worth fixing before you start using the tool. Think of it as clearing the brief before the creative work begins.

The tool does not publish directly to social platforms. Assets are downloaded and then posted manually or through your existing scheduling tool. For some workflows, this is fine. For teams trying to run a fully integrated marketing stack, there is a gap.

And Pomelli is still an experiment. Google Labs products come with an inherent caveat: they can change, pivot, or be wound down. For now, the tool is free, functional, and expanding. But it is worth building workflows around it with that context in mind rather than treating it as permanent infrastructure.

How Hovo Digital Thinks About This Tool

At Hovo Digital, we have always believed that the best marketing is the kind that sounds like it could only have come from one particular brand. Generic content is not just aesthetically boring. It is commercially inert. People scroll past it because nothing in it signals that someone who understood their audience wrote it.

Pomelli does not replace the strategic thinking that makes marketing work. It does not do audience research. It does not build a content calendar around your business objectives. It does not analyse what is performing and why and help you iterate toward something better. Those are the things human marketing professionals exist to do and will continue to exist to do.

What Pomelli does is take the execution burden off the table for businesses that previously could not afford to carry it. When a small business owner is not spending three hours on a Canva file, they have three hours for the work that actually builds a business. When they are not agonising over a caption that may or may not sound like their brand, they are free to think about the strategy behind the caption.

That is a real gain. It is not unlimited. But it is real.

How to Start Using Google Pomelli in India Right Now

If you are based in India and want to try the tool, the process is straightforward.

Go to labs.google.com/pomelli and sign in with your Google account. You need to be 18 or older to access it.

Enter your URL and let Pomelli build your Business DNA profile. Review it carefully when it comes back. The profile will show you your detected colour palette, typography, tone of voice and visual style. If something is significantly off, note it, because it will affect the content that gets generated.

Run your first campaign with a specific goal in mind. Do not test it with a vague prompt. The more specific your prompt, the more useful the output.

Download what you like. Edit what needs editing. Post it. See how your audience responds.

Then come back to it.

The Bigger Picture

The arrival of Google Pomelli AI in India is not an isolated product launch. It is part of a broader shift in what is possible for businesses that have historically been priced out of professional marketing.

Brand consistency across platforms can increase revenue by up to 23 percent, according to research from Lucidpress. That number has historically been inaccessible to small businesses, not because they did not understand it, but because maintaining that consistency required design expertise, time, and budget that most small businesses simply did not have.

Tools like Pomelli are beginning to close that gap. Not all the way. Not without the strategic layer that turns content into results. But meaningfully.

For the café, the weaver, the D2C founder, the local service business trying to grow beyond word of mouth, that closing of the gap matters. And in a market of 63 million small businesses, even a modest improvement in the quality and consistency of their marketing presence is a significant story.

Google seems to understand that. The deliberateness of the India launch suggests this is not a side project. It is a bet on where marketing help is needed most.

Whether Pomelli lives up to that bet in practice will depend on how it evolves over the months ahead. For now, it is free, it is live in India, and it is worth an afternoon of your time to find out what it can do for your brand.
